BILCO Smoke Vents Help Reduce Fire Risk at New Utah Theater

• The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater at dōTERRA in Pleasant Grove, Utah, is a new $65 million, 77,950-square-foot performing arts facility.
• The facility includes two theaters with seating for over 1,000 guests, a club lounge, ballroom, arts education wing and state-of-the-art performance technology.

BILCO Products

• The project incorporated motorized BILCO smoke vents, measuring 6 feet x 8 feet, 6.5 inches, equipped with push button operation for quick opening. A BILCO roof hatch allows rooftop access.
• These smoke vents assist firefighting efforts and improve life safety by venting smoke, heat and toxic fumes in the event of a fire.

The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater was designed to set a new standard for performing arts venues in Utah, with a focus on advanced technology, guest experience and life safety. To support this goal, the project team incorporated BILCO motorized smoke vents as a critical part of the building’s fire protection strategy. The vents provide rapid, automated venting of smoke, heat and toxic fumes during a fire, helping facilitate emergency response and safe evacuation.



Architects from Method Studio selected the BILCO smoke vents for their durability, seamless operability and proven performance in large-scale commercial buildings. Unlike many theater projects that require acoustical venting to mitigate exterior noise, this theater’s location allowed for standard BILCO smoke vents, offering cost efficiency without compromising safety.
